Future of web design tools: DIY designer is interesting, and it publishes in Flash

I saw an ad today about what I thought was an up and coming web design firm. Clicking it took me to Wix.com, a do-it-yourself (DIY) type place where someone who knows not a line of web code can create a decent looking Flash-based site. This immediately brings up two questions? Is this kind of web creation and delivery the future of web development? And secondly, is this a feasible publishing model with an accessible web being so important these days?

For Humber’s Advanced Web Development program’s Javascript class, we were asked to create an e-commerce website whose catalouge is AJAX/XML powered. Islamic Warehouse was my response to the challenge. An online store for Muslim apparel, accessories, and media, Islamic Warehouse was designed in Photoshop, and implemented using AJAX techniques in Dreamweaver.

Saudi based contracting firm AlSaqb wanted a logo and website as part of its re-branding efforts. I created a logo, site design, appealing web copy, internationalized (multi-lingual) site architecture, and provided hosting for the AlSabq website.
